Diorama 1/35 ”105mm Howitzer”
Here is the first mockup I did. The 105mm cannon I had assembled a few weeks earlier.
The gun is from the kit: ”Dragon 6499 105mm Howitzer M2A1 & Carriage M2A1 with Crews”.
I started with a few pieces of frigolite. Normally you build a diorama on a square frame but with this build I wanted to try something different.
First, I cracked and sanded the base, then painted it with black paint. As a ground cover, I used ordinary soil that I filtered so only the smallest particles were used.
All trees and shrubs are natural material, the bars on the spruce are moss which I dried and then painted green.
I used small branches which I then glued to the tree trunks.
I bought the sandbags from Greef Stuff World in Spain. http://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/inicio/308-flexible-sandbags-x50.html I’ve used these in the past with good results. I modified some of the sandbags with small threads to make them look even more real.
The snow is bicarbonate which I sprinkled over the building, in some places I have glued the bicarbonate with white glue, but most of it is just sprinkled over the soil and plants.
The figures are the ones that was in the Dragon kit in, addition to the seated soldier made by the Royal Model and the figure standing and smoking.
What I am most pleased with in this build is the chilly feeling you get from the snow and that the sandbags became realistic. This was the first time I made a diorama with snow and I must say that it inspired more dioramas with winter scenes.
